If you are always found with earbuds getting lost in the music, not paying attention to anything or anyone around, then these songs are for you. Music is such a fun way that people express their feelings and serves as an outlet for emotions, but have you struggled finding THAT song? You know, your song, the one you spend hours listening to and never stop talking about to your friends. Most of the time, the most well-known songs aren’t able to capture those feelings as well as underrated ones are. So, if you’re looking for something that perfectly captures what you’re feeling or simply one to listen to during class, then these lesser-known songs are the ones for you.

Sugar Coated Lies by Justin Nech: It’s very cute, to be fair. The song is alternative but definitely has that indie/romance vibe for you out there that love it. “When real love is blind,” by far is the best lyric within this song. His writing is aimed towards self-love and confidence, and within the song, he questions within the chorus, “why do you lose your mind over compliments and size?” He’s highlighting some of the issues within our society, especially with body image. The song itself is extremely sweet and it’s just a fun song to have playing in the background while studying. This song is newly released, being released on January 20th of this year, so go check it out and support the artist!!

Poetic Vulgarity by D4vd: The famous artist, D4vd who created Romantic Homicide and Here With Me, blew up on TikTok last summer. Many love him but here’s his newest addition, Poetic Vulgarity. If you want a mix of the two songs, Romantic Homicide, and Here With Me, then this is going to exceed your expectations. Currently, it is only available on SoundCloud and YouTube and has yet to be released on any other platforms. His music is alternative, which seems to be a trend within our generation, but who’s complaining? “The grand scheme of things never seemed to like us,” a lyric within the song is relatable to some, but personally the vulnerability within the song is why it’s a must-add to a playlist. If you’re struggling in a relationship, or just need something to listen to at 3 am, then you better add this one to your playlist.

1984 by Jacob Maul: He does a lot of music with love being the overall premise and inspiration. His song was released on January 27th this year and is a part of the pop genre. For any of you who love fun songs, this is definitely the one for you. Love is an underlying inspiration throughout the song, the main inspiration comes from the well-known novel called 1984 by George Orwell. He calls it the “soundtrack” of the book, and fans are already loving it. When he mentions that, “There’s beauty in the chaos” nearing the end of the song, I feel like fans were right about this being the soundtrack of the book! Even though I haven’t read this book yet, I think his song gave me a general idea for what’s mentioned in it. So if you liked this novel and want a coinciding song to listen to, then this needs to be added to your playlist!

Take a Moment to Breathe by Normal the Kid: This song isn’t new; however, it is one of the songs that helps convey feelings like anxiety. If you find yourself struggling, then you’ll love how well he’s able to convey it. It’s also a part of the pop genre and consists of a bonus instrumental within the EP he released. It has very few lyrics, but the vocals are strong (so it really doesn’t matter.) His songs are more about mental health which is such a good outlet for people struggling. You’ll probably find a video on your For You Page from him since he tends to promote his music on his TikTok account, @notnormalthekid. He recently published a song called Pale Blue, so go add that to your playlist as well.

Spiderwebs by Alfie Jukes: Even though this one blew up on his TikTok account @alfiejukes, I don’t hear people talking about it as often as it should. Even though a pattern within these songs is them being a part of the alternative genre or being promoted on TikTok, they need to be talked about more. Before Spiderwebs gained some attraction, he normally shared covers of songs on his account. This one is a song he made about overthinking. The song goes more in-depth about his mindset within this fallen relationship which is a turn from his other songs, such as That Was Quick! The best lyric for me would have to be, “you know it terrifies me, are we missing out on something more?” He released this on December 9th of last year, and it has reached 500 thousand streams. If 500 thousand people can listen to it, then you can too. Go listen!

Missin’ Something by Zach Templar: If you want Rex Orange County without the problematic part, then this teenage up-incoming artist is the one for you. Missin’ Something came out on February 2nd and is a part of the alternative genre as well. His songs are appealing to the teenage audience as his overall inspiration in his songs are based around on love. Think of a teenage coming-of-age film but as a song. This song has great instrumentals and is such a relatable song for some out there. The lyric “nothing I can do, all I want is you,” is the perfect example of why this reminds me of a 2000s coming-of-age movie.

Your Love by Regina Pimentel: Have you ever wanted to listen to a song that reminds you of a fantasy world? How about a song that would absolutely be playing in the background of a café? Or a song that would be playing late at night? Then Your Love is filled for all those categories. Her songs are a part of the folk genre, and all of them consist of a softer melody. This song came out around a month ago and only has a little over 3000 listens on Spotify. Her songs are slower than most, however, they are the human embodiment of ethereal. I really enjoy her songs, but who could blame me? They are just so pretty. If you’ve heard Rises the Moon by Liana Flores, then you’ll really like her songs. So, go check her music out!
