These days, it is not uncommon to stumble across a photo of a childhood celebrity that you loved when you were a kid, only to discover that they look completely different and almost unrecognizable. This is because of the continuous innovations in cosmetic surgery these days. According to The Aesthetic Surgery Society, cosmetic surgical procedures increased in 2021 by 54%. Hollywood has been known for their large contribution to these numbers. Hollywood stars have been setting the beauty standards of America for years, which is why many celebrities get their procedures to enhance and maintain their good looks. Many plastic surgeons believe that the increase of cosmetic procedures is due to the significantly rising rate of social acceptance for them. People have become less judgmental of people who get work done and it is progressively becoming more normalized. Social media is also a large contributing factor. This normalization is also caused by an increase of its presence in social media. People now have quick and easy access to the latest celebrity looks and trends.

For a long time, cosmetic procedures only seemed accessible to the rich and famous since it was in relatively low demand the rates for the surgeries were much higher than they are today. A few years ago, the starting cost of a facelift was $8,000, excluding the other related costs. Celebrities like Demi Moore have spent over $500,000 on surgeries in order to maintain her appearance.

These days, cosmetic surgeries are no longer a taboo, and it is popular for people to seek out surgeons to improve themselves both physically and mentally. For some, plastic surgery is the perfect solution to improving the way one might see themselves. This newfound regularity has created more demand in the industry which causes the prices to decrease.

All in all, many people these days believe that there is no shame in investing in a cosmetic surgery. Some individuals have something about their appearance that they want to change for their own mental wellbeing and people now have the opportunity to eliminate their insecurities to feel more comfortable in their own skin.
