Athlete Spotlight: Aidan Glover

Braxton Groce and Jason Dockstader

Aidan Glover, a transfer student from MUS [Memphis University School] has already made his mark on the Collierville Dragons Football Team. We got the opportunity to do an interview with the upcoming football star. We asked him a variety of questions regarding the season, the past, and the future.

“I plan on this season being a big season for Collierville for many reasons”, says Glover. “First off, there are huge expectations for this team because of last year’s team.” The undefeated Dragons of last year kept a streak of wins until a crushing loss in the second round of the playoffs, and Glover believes that it puts the pressure on the new team. Glover also adds that “Our team is expected to not only keep this streak going, but to also expand on what last year’s team accomplished… I plan on taking us all the way to state.” Big things are seeming to come this year for football! This begs the question why he left MUS and decided to come to Collierville. Glover responds, “My family has a lot of history in Collierville. My dad played football here and I have [had] other family members to attend Collierville.” Glover adds that “The coaching staff is top notch, the team environment is unmatched, and the Collierville community is just amazing, to say the least.”

While he says he does not have a lot of previous achievements, he did pick up a Division 1 offer from Austin Peay. He also hopes to continue receiving college opportunities. One of his “weaknesses”, but more so something he needs to work on, is how to understand the game from a coach’s point of view. He describes it as “being able to sit down to watch film and understanding the tendencies of the opposing defense and some of the coverages they run.”

He seems to be actively working to learn this valuable skill. On the other hand, his strengths are numerous. He says he believes to be a great athlete, “you must be coachable. You must be able to learn from your mistakes and listen to your coaches. I think you must be able to make sacrifices. For instance, on a Saturday night when everyone else is going out, you must make a decision to either go out, or go get some work in. You also have to be humble. Being humble is so important and just remembering where you started from.”

Speaking of coaches, the main coach that he looks up to is his dad. “He had been my coach since I was about 5, all the way until I was 13 and still is my personal trainer today. He inspired me to work hard for what I want. He has always told me that I can do anything, if I’m willing to put in the work. I also look up to him because he has sacrificed so much for me to be able to do what I do today” recounts Glover. His dad seems to be a big influence on him throughout all his life. Glover has “played football since I [he] was about 5. My dad played, all my uncles played, so I didn’t have much of a choice. I loved the game from the beginning. My dad would train me and really pushed me to become the player I am today.”

According to Glover, his dad was a huge part of his football career and life in general. He still is now.

Stepping onto the field for the first time for a new team can be a nerve-racking experience. Coming into the first game, many players have uncertainties and sometimes those uncertainties can get to them. Aidan Glover, however, did not have any uncertainties. Glover elaborates, saying “I have been with the team since March and we have put in countless amounts of blood, sweat, and occasionally tears to prepare for this season. Coming into this first game I did not have an ounce of doubt in me. I knew the work we put in, and I knew that we were prepared.” After the game, people took notice of Glover’s stellar performance and huge impact. Glover recalls this moment, saying that “It felt amazing to be able to contribute to the team. I love these guys and they have grown to be my brothers. I have worked hard just to make sure that I can put my best foot forward so that I can help my team win.”

Glover knows that the team is stellar, and he knows what the team can do. All it’s about is putting himself out there and doing all that he can to secure a win.

In the short-term, Glover wants to take the team to state. “I want to make history here. And then next year, I want to go to state again. I want to create a legacy here in Collierville and inspire the next generation to keep that history going.”

In the long-term, he wants to play at the Division 1 level. Glover states “I want to go to a major program and enter in the pre-med program. My goal has always been to make it to a professional level, and I believe that I can achieve that with a lot of hard work. I also have always wanted to be an anesthesiologist. I can either see myself playing football at a higher level or practicing medicine.”

Aidan Glover is a talented player, a crucial member of our football team, a hard-worker, and an incredible student at CHS. We’ll have to see what he brings for the future of Dragons Football.
