Dragons Football (Record: 7-0)

Our Collierville Dragons Football team has had a spectacular start to the season! After having a promising win in the Arlington Jamboree (21-0), we had our first win and first regular season game against the Wooddale Cardinals (8/19), where we blew them out 47-0. The next week (8/26), we had an amazing performance against Frederick Douglass High School, where we won 42-0. We continued to dominate Friday night when our Dragons won 37-6 against White Station (9/2). The week after that (9/9), we took a stroll down the road to Center Hill to pick up a quick 42-0 win. Then we headed back home for our Homecoming game against Cordova (9/16), where we had a feel-good-win with a score of 50-15.

In our first game, our new standout transfer student, Aidan Glover played his first game. Man, what a season debut! He threw multiple touchdown passes and had several thrilling hand-offs. Aidan showed his talent within the first three minutes of the game, getting a quick touchdown pass to Noah Flaskamp. He continued this display of confidence throughout the night.

In game number two, we won comfortably 42-0. There was an issue with penalties, such as holding, false starts, and unsportsmanlike conduct. Even with the penalties, we still dominated on both sides of the field. We had great performances from Aidan Glover (7-7 for 154 yds), Johnathan Davis, Andy Bell, and Austin Smith.

In our third game, and our first district game, against White Station High School, we continued our onslaught, winning 37-6. Even though, on paper, we appeared to win easily, but it was quite a challenge.

The White Station Spartans played a physical defense causing struggle for Glover early, but overall, the Dragons got it together on offense (Glover 12-17 for 246 yds). The focus for this game was defense where our defensive line would barely let the quarter-back get the ball off. Star players in this game included Will Toy, Sam Hultz, Austin Smith, and Aidan Glover.

In game four, dominance is the perfect word to describe our style of play. Our offense. Our defense. All was spectacular. With winning 42-0, that made our Dragons outscore their opponents 185-6 in only 4 games. That is quite the insane stat line that shows how strong and reliable our offense and defense. Some standout players in that game include Austin Smith (189 yds for 4 rec) and Logan Davis (86 yds for 8 rec).

In game five, our Homecoming game, we had a feel-good-win, with a score of 50-15, where we extended our record to 5-0, solidifying us as a powerhouse in the state. In this game Cordova scored the most amount of points that any opponent has scored this season at 15. Standout players in this game include Aidan Glover (8-10 for 120 yds & 6 car for 87 yds), Austin Smith (46 yds for 2 rec), Noah Flaskamp (44 yds for 2 rec), and Andy Bell (47 yds for 5 car).

In game six, the Dragons traveled to Whitehaven where it was quite the battle. The Dragons were able to prevaivle by winning 26-21. That is the most that any team has scored on our Dragons this season. Some standout players from this game include Noah Flaskamp (110 yds for 7 rec) and Adian Glover (18-24 for 230 yds & 39 yds for 6 car).

Volleyball (Record: 21-7)

Our Lady Dragons Volleyball team had a spectacular regular season! They kicked off the 22-23 season with a 3-0 win against the Cordova Wolves. It was an ugly one for Cordova, where the Dragons dominated each set (25-2, 25-2, 25-1). Since then, our Collierville volleyball team has had 15 wins and only three losses. Six of those wins were at the Volley in The Ville Tournament, where our dragons won the whole tournament!

After the tournament, our Dragons found their footing, going on a 13-win streak (including the games in the tournament). Their streak sadly ended at the Border Battle Tournament, on the weekend of the 17th, against Nolensville. The annual Border Battle is the state’s premier tournament regarding the preparation for the TSSAA State Championships that are in October. In this tournament, the Lady Dragons went 2-4 and lost in the semi-finals of the Border Battle Gold Bracket. The teams they lost to in this tournament were the defending state champion Nolensville, Cleveland, and Briarcrest Christian.

Now our Lady Dragons Volleyball team only has a handful of regular season games left, then they will look towards the beginning of the state tournament, where last year they could not get things done late in the tournament. Wish our Lady Dragons luck!

Woman’s Soccer (Record: 5-3-1)

On August 5th and 6th Our Lady Dragon’s Soccer team played two of their three exhibition games against Jackson Academy, and Jackson Prep. They won both games, the first was a huge win, 9-1, and the second they won 2-0. On Aug 11th they played their final exhibition game against St. George’s, winning 8-0 and hinting towards a very promising season.

The season opener was against Hutchison High School on August 16th, where it was a 0-0 tie. In their second game against Girls Prep, they could not get things done and lost 2-0. Our Lady Dragons had bounce-back game against Evangelical Christian where they won 3-1. In that game, Amelya Jacobs had a crucial PK to get them into the game, and then Olivia Federico scored to make it 2-1, and then Jacobs again scored to help them secure that win.

Then our Lady Dragons played White Station on 8/30, where they won comfortably 4-0 to get their second win of the season. In that game, Lena Woodcock scored two straight goals. Alice Moffatt and Chloe Balkcom also scored in this win. After that, our Ladies hit the road against University School of Jackson where they had quite the battle but ended up losing 2-3.

Then our Lady Dragons participated in the Rivals Tournament where they attacked right away, but the Briarcrest goalkeeper made two outstanding saves to stop them. In the second half, the Dragons kept up their offensive momentum and had many shots on goal that were within inches of the goal. It was as excellent as any high school soccer match played this fall in West Tennessee. Both teams are proven recurring state giants that will capitalize on the close contest in 2022. Next in the Rivals Tournament our Ladt Dragons took on Hartfield Academy, which they comfortably won 6-3. In this showing, Amelya Jacobs, a senior forward for the Dragons, led the team’s offense with two goals on the day, her fourth and fifth of the year.

Next, the ladies took on Arlington, on the road, where Amelya Jacobs scored her 6th goal of the season in the first half from a Kerrigan Kivisto assist. Early in the second half, Lena Woodcock scored with an assist from Kaitlyn Lewis. Jacobs would then later feed Kivisto to add the final goal. The final score for that game was 3-0. Then our Lady Dragons hosted Brighton for Senior’s Night where it was an absolute massacre with us winning 9-0! In this game, Chloe Balkcom produced a first half hat trick that sealed the victory early for the Dragons. Alice Moffat would then weave through defenders for a pair of goals. Kennedy Kivisto and Mabry Klocke added a pair of goals that gave Collierville a cushioned 7-0 lead at halftime. Joining the scoring spree in the second half were Cameron Ewing and Sydney Munier that gave the Dragons a 9-0 victory.

Cross Country

On September 3rd, the Dragons Cross Country team participated in the Memphis Twilight Classic. It was a bizarre race marred by lightning and lightning sirens. The Varsity Girls placed 7th of 39 teams where Scarlett Nash, an All-Region selection as a freshman, led the team for the 9th straight race dating back to last season. Alyssa Loden was also a standout, running in 3rd position, and Lauren Moerbe had her highest team finish ever in 5th position.  For the Varsity Boys, they placed 9th of 55 teams. Reid Gulstrom led the team and picked up where he left off at State last year. He was two seconds off his PR and 63 seconds faster than he was at Twilight last year. In his varsity debut, Ty Durst showed up in a big way and helped the team secure the win over Arlington with the 6th runner tiebreak. Freshmen Jacob Roper delivered a phenomenal performance in his high school debut. His 18:13 ranks as the third fastest CHS freshman debut of the last 25 years. He is in great company as this list includes 13 boys who went on to compete collegiately

When it comes to the JV Boys, they placed 7th of 29 teams. Senior Miles Garland led a solid pack of dragons that included Thatcher Groce, Caden Lindsay, and Jase McCloskey. These four boys finished within 4 seconds of each other. Andrew Zona closed it out as 5th man, locking in an impressive 28 second pack time. A pack time of less than 30 seconds is stellar. Groce, McCloskey, and Jake Norton all looked strong in their first official high school race. And for the JV Girls, they placed 3rd of 13 teams where Freshman Addie Sharp dominated. She ran an excellent race and looked strong from start to finish. Along with Addie, Jeffe Clare Old, Kirsten Dobson, and Abby Chinn all placed in the top 30.

Next, on September 10th, the team took a road trip to Pensacola, Georgia for the Gulf Coast Stampede. There, the Varsity Girls Team placed 6th of 31 teams and were led again by sophomore Scarlett Nash who was in 11th place overall. For the Varsity Boys Team, that placed 8th of 37 teams, was led by junior Reid Gulstrom.

For the JV Girls Team, they placed 1st of 13 teams! The top finishers include senior Sofia Zamarano, who placed 3rd overall, sophomore Addie Bogda who placed 4th, junior Kirsten Dobson who placed 5th, sophomore Abby Chinn who placed 6th, and freshman Emma Dobson who came in 10th. And for the JV Boys, they placed 2nd of 21 teams. Top finishers for them include sophomore Colin Sabo who came in 5th place; sophomore Jase McCloskey who was in 6th place, and sophomore Jackson Haynes who finished in 9th place.

Men’s and Women’s Golf

Our Dragons Golf team started this season strong with a 141 – 169, win over Arlington on 8/11. Then on 8/16 they defeated Houston (Houseton) 147-156.

The Dragons continued the season on August 18th, where they played in two tournaments and got 1st place in both, each being at the Wenzler Tournament and the Brighton Tournament. We also went on to place 3rd at the FCA Tournament on 8/22. Then our Dragons went to the Hardin County Invitational at Pickwick Landing where they got 1st place [Nathan London (73)]. The Dragons also won the Hardin County Invitational Golf Tournament where they beat 19 other schools/teams.

Most recently Our Dragons beat Brighton, 151-182 (men’s) and 89-100 (women’s). Jackson Whaley and Nolan Sawyer were the low scorers for the boys, each with scores of 37. Ella Penke placed first overall for the woman’s team with an outstanding score of 41, and Avery Nyen trailed close behind with a score of 48. Our dragons have three more matches, and four more tournaments to go till season end, and are likely to excel in all of them.

Mountain Biking

The Men’s Collierville Mountain biking team announced their 2022-2023 schedule for their five-race schedule. Their first race was on August 28th and took place at Chickasaw Trace Park, where Amber Hong and Davis Glidewell both took 1st place. Our Dragons will travel to Oakfield on 9/11, to Morristown on 9/25, to Gallatin on 10/9, and end the season in Chattanooga on 10/23.

Collierville’s mountain biking team is conjoined between the high school and middle school. Two sixth grade boys who participated in last year’s season, Tyler Hill, and Roman Pennel, placed 484th and 374th in race 5 of last year. And being that two of our sixth-grade boys were in the 6020 total contestants, it seems hopeful that The Men’s Mountain biking team will continue to produce promising athletes.
