The Super Bowl was played on Sunday, and here are some highlights from the big day, along with thoughts from the CHS journalism class. Before kickoff, a lot of people had a Super Bowl party. “I had a Super Bowl party with my family,” said Aleah.

The excitement of the Super Bowl started with a coin toss. It was special because it honored Pat Tillman. He was selected in the 1998 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals but put his career on hold after the events of September 11th, 2001. Pat joined the elite Army Rangers and served his country. In 2004, he died during combat in Afghanistan. Four students were selected from the Pat Tillman Foundation to assist in the coin toss. The Chiefs won the toss and chose to kick off. Both the Eagles and Chiefs started the game off hot, and by the end of the first quarter, the score was 7 to 7. The second quarter started, and the Eagles came out unstoppable. The first half was coming to an end; it was the chiefs’ last time getting the ball before the half. Patrick Mahomes was trying to run to make a first down, but an Eagles player tackled him by his right ankle and injured him. He was in pain, and the Chiefs fans were worried. At the end of the second, the Eagles were up by 10 (24-14).

Now it is time for the halftime show, and everybody watched Rihanna perform. Bailee said, “I only watched the halftime show, not the full game.” More people watched the halftime show with Rihanna than the actual game.

Keira was asked What did you think about Rihanna’s outfit? Her response was, “I think it was pretty. I like the material it was made out of. She looked very pretty.” Rihanna performed all her iconic songs. Everyone was wondering where her special guest was. Cameron was asked, “How did you react to Rihanna’s guest?” He said, “At first, I did not know it was a guest until I looked closer and saw she was pregnant! I had to look it up and notice everyone going crazy about it.” Rihanna’s performance shocked the world. She used suspended platforms to stand on, but the platforms were not on the ground; they were floating in the air. That got everyone nervous because, at the end of the performance, when she sang her song Diamonds, her platform started to shake.

After the 30-minute halftime break, it was time for the third quarter. The Chiefs got the ball first and scored on their first drive. The score is now 21–27. The Chiefs stopped the Eagles from scoring on the next drive.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Chiefs scored. The Chiefs were up 28–27. The Eagles got the ball and could not do anything. The Eagles had to punt the ball to the Chiefs. The punt returner, Kadarius Toney, caught the ball and ran for 65 yards. That broke the record for the longest punt return in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs scored later and were up 35–27. The Eagles responded with Jalen Hurts’ third touchdown, which made NFL history. They tried a two-point conversion and got it. This is the second time the score was tied at 35 for each team. The Chiefs got the ball and made it down the field. They carefully managed the time and waited for 11 seconds to kick the field goal. The Chiefs were up 38-35 at the end of the fourth quarter. The Eagles got the ball back but could not score.

This is the Chiefs’ second Super Bowl victory, breaking Andy Reid’s record of defeating his former team. This is the first time in NFL history that a former NFL coach has won the Super Bowl against a former team. When the Chiefs were celebrating, Travis Kelce found his brother to tell him he did a good job and share a hug.

Now that the Super Bowl is over, it is time to talk about the commercial. Scout said, “My favorite Super Bowl commercial was the Hellmann’s one with Pete Davison.” The Farmer’s Dog Commercial was a well-known but unpopular commercial. It is where the dog is getting older and is close to dying. The one commercial everyone was talking about was the Tubi commercial. The commercial got everyone looking around to see who had the remote. This concluded Super Bowl 57, where history was made, the shocking news was shared, and moments will be remembered.
