On May 2^nd, 2023, the Writers Guild of America began their almost 5-month strike. During this event, 11,500 screenwriters went on strike due to a disagreement with their contracts. Unfortunately, since the strike only ended on September 27^th, 2023, many productions have been delayed. Beloved TV shows and film release dates have been pushed back several months and some even years. 

One of Netflix’s biggest success’s, Stranger Things, is a suspenseful, sci-fi, drama series that began in 2016. Stranger Things was automatically a huge hit with an 8.7/10 on IMDb. It’s set back in the 1980’s and follows a group of friends trying to save their hometown of Hawkins, Indiana from creatures that emerged from the town lab. Directed by the Duffer Brothers, the series has had 4 successful seasons and a final 5^th in the making. The last season was originally supposed to be released in the summer of 2024, but due to the strike, they had to halt production. The new season is now said to be released some time in 2025. 

One of James Cameron’s biggest hits, Avatar, is reportedly supposed to have 5 movies in its series. The original Avatar movie was released back in 2009 and ended up making almost 3 billion USD. It is a sci-fi/action series that successfully keeps the viewer on edge.

It is set on an alien planet, where the natives (Na’vi) and human inhabitants are always at war. To be more like the natives, they created human/Na’vi hybrids, that they can mentally connect to and drive. The 2^nd movie in the franchise was released in 2022 and the next few are said to already have been filmed. Due to the films being 3 hours long and relying so heavily on CGI, they take a while to create. Originally, the film was set to release December 2024 but was pushed back to December 2025. 

The hit HBO Max series, Euphoria, has also confirmed another season. The series follows a group of students trying to navigate their way around high school, especially in their physical love lives. It mainly orbits around the addict character, Rue, and everyone she is surrounded by. It is also known for its music, composed by Labrinth. The teen-drama was a hit, despite all its lewd content, with 88% Rotten Tomatoes. The makers of Euphoria have not confirmed a release date but said it could potentially release late in 2024 but recently suggested it was releasing in 2025. 

Many are bummed they must wait on their favorite media projects but are glad they are at least back in production.
