We all know that tons of people use makeup; sometimes to help us feel better about ourselves, or to hide blemishes. For years, people have used makeup, but it might have a secret much larger than Victoria’s Secret.

Talcum powder can be found in many products such as baby powder, shower products, lotions, makeup, and face masks. Products like these are usually used for everyday use, but talcum powder can be extremely dangerous. Talcum is sometimes found near the known carcinogen called “asbestos”. Asbestos is what causes mesothelioma, a sickness including the lungs. Mesothelioma occurs when you inhale too much asbestos which causes a film of asbestos bacteria to forms across the membrane of the lungs. Asbestos is used for many purposes like shingles and cement. It’s not talc itself that’s bad, it’s where it’s found. Talcum powder is normally mined near asbestos, and asbestos, as stated before, is very harmful to the body.

It’s always important that you check to make sure your daily hygiene products do not have talc or are asbestos free. Some hygiene product companies that fit these guidelines include Glossier, Honest Beauty, Rituel de Fille, Vapour, and MOB Beauty. Spreading awareness of asbestos can create a safer and better environment for young children interested in makeup and hygiene. If you do have products that include talc, make sure it has no asbestos or has been asbestos tested.
