Black Friday is known throughout the world as the day to do your shopping because of its huge sales. Black Friday always occurs on the first Friday after Thanksgiving and marks the beginning of traditional Christmas shopping. Black Friday deals have an average of a 34% discount, which grabs the public’s attention.

Similar to Black Friday, Cyber Monday is also a great day for sales. Cyber Monday is all the deals of Black Friday, but it is online. Cyber Monday occurs on the first Monday after Thanksgiving and is became increasingly popular as many started to prefer online shopping.

Back in 2022, according to Adobe Analytics, consumers spent $9.12 billion during Black Friday, with it reaching up to $17.2 billion in online sales. The average person in 2022 spent around $218, which would be about 23% of their Christmas budget. This, of course, can benefit many businesses who have strategies for Black Friday sales.

Along with Black Friday sales, consumers also spend around $11.3 billions on Cyber Monday, via Adobe. A survey suggests most consumers spend about $500 during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

While Black Friday is adored by many, there are some negative aspects to it. A report from Money.co.uk says the deliveries made by Black Friday sales released more than 429,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This would be equivalent to 0.12% of the UK’s annual emissions. On top of this, due to the large number of purchases there is a lot of waste created from products that get thrown out later.

Though most people look forward to the days where they find great deals, there is always the possibility of something going wrong. The insane sales on Black Friday are known internationally, so naturally many people are going to try and snag a deal. Malls are sometimes packed shoulder to shoulder with anxious buyer. And of course, there are always those entitled people who cause a riot in the middle of a department store.

On top of this, some people claim Cyber Monday is not how it used to be. Since home shopping is more common now, Cyber Monday does not seem as special. Even more consumers are likely to do their Black Friday shopping online.

Like anything, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have their pros and cons. Still, it is like a tradition and can be fun to participate in.
