Digital and traditional art are the two types of art, one is being able to draw on your devices, and the other is things like paint, clay, pencil, pen, and any other material used to create art.
Traditional art is a broad spectrum of art, from from building sculptures of wood, stone, clay, or even metal, to drawing on a piece of paper with pen, pencil, or even paint on it with acrylic, watercolor, or gouache paint. Traditional art is versatile, as you can create art with almost anything, and create looks that digital art cannot replicate. However, traditional art can get messy, such as charcoal smudges, paint smears, cutting or shaving off too much of a piece of art, or simply staining one’s clothes with ink or paint.
Digital art is made through computers, tablets, and even phones, being able to create things traditional art cannot, such as digital animation, which has become popular over the years. Certain effects can be made in digital art that cannot be replicated in traditional art, such as certain glow effects. With all that being said, digital art can strain your eyes and ruin your posture from leaning onto a screen all day, and using certain tools people might consider as “cheating” such as copy and paste and the lasso tool has sparked controversy in the art community.
With all this being said, is there a type of art that’s more important than the other?
There isn’t! All art is real art, whether that’s digital or traditional art, no type should be treated better than the other, since it’s all about preference. There are pros and cons for both types of art, since they both have different uses thought the world, and some examples could be for decor, or even making art for a website.
