Want to Volunteer?

Kaleigh Cook, Staff Writer

Have you ever volunteered or donated towards something? When thinking about a couple places in Collierville to volunteer you can always consider a few places like…

  • Collierville Animal shelter: A hands-on place to volunteer (dogwalkers, cat cuddlers, and groomers etc.) In order to volunteer you must be at least 14 years of age, be accompanied by an adult if 14-15 years in age, and bring a valid photo ID if 16 years or older. If you have more questions, call the shelter at 901-457-2670 to get more information about training classes.
  • The Pet Compassion Centers/ Kitty City, Inc: volunteers are needed for all their programs. You can volunteer to help promote and participate in fundraising campaigns, learn more about homeless animals in your neighborhoods through the next-door app, speak at schools about their educational programs, and you can also foster kittens or puppies. If you want more info about their volunteering program, you can mail PO Box 25034 or call (901) 849-5328
  • Collierville Food Pantry: you can bring in canned foods, assist the food pantry by collecting and distributing food for families in need. You can contact (901) 853-3235 and is located at 167 Washington street.
  • Collierville police: many can volunteer for the Collierville police department to help the community. The Special Citizens Program provides hours in administrative division, criminal investigation, patrol division, etc. To receive more information call (901) 457 2562.

If you’re looking to volunteer you should really check out these places.  Although some may be time consuming, you may have a lot of fun volunteering. I interviewed a couple of my classmates on their opinions about volunteering and if they would want to.

Classmate 1 stated “ Yes, I love the thought about volunteering I see it as a very important way to help the community, and I would love to volunteer at the food bank.” Another classmate said “Yes, I would totally help out at the pet compassion center, because I love animals” I really believe many should at least try volunteering, its very helpful and fun.
