CASTLE HILLS, TX — A driver was arrested and a passenger was seriously injured after a Castle Hills police pursuit ended in a fiery crash Saturday night near Jackson Keller Road. The collision knocked down a utility pole, briefly cut power to several nearby businesses and sent the vehicle up in flames.

Police said officers noticed the vehicle near a closed business in the 1000 block of Jackson Keller Road just before 11 p.m. The people inside appeared to be paying unusual attention to the property, according to Castle Hills Police officials.

Police say the stop near a closed business led to the chase

Castle Hills Police said officers first approached the vehicle after it stopped at a nearby apartment complex. At that point, the driver sped away north on Jackson Keller Road, prompting the pursuit.

Authorities have not said why the people in the vehicle were focused on the business, and no burglary or theft has been alleged. The encounter unfolded late at night in a commercial area that includes businesses and road access points along the corridor.

Police have also not identified the occupants or said how many people were inside the vehicle when officers first made contact.

Crash at NW Loop 410 frontage road brought down a pole

Police later located the vehicle after it crashed near Jackson Keller Road and the eastbound NW Loop 410 frontage road. The impact brought down a utility pole, which caused a power outage for several businesses in the area.

The vehicle then caught fire. Castle Hills firefighters responded and put out the flames. Officials said service was later restored to the affected area, though they did not give a specific timeline for when power returned.

The crash scene tied together a traffic incident, a fire response and an outage, all within a short stretch of roadway near the Loop 410 corridor.

Passenger seriously injured as driver ran from the wreck

One person inside the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken for medical treatment. Police did not provide an update on that person’s condition after the transport.

After the crash, the driver ran from the scene, according to police, but officers caught the person. Authorities have not released the driver’s name.

No information has been released about whether the injured passenger was also among the people officers first observed near the closed business or whether anyone else was hurt in the crash.
