On Thursday, September 8th, tragedy struck as a shooting occurs inside of the Memphis FedEx Forum during Atlanta rapper Lil Baby’s performance. Only one shot was fired, but it hits a male victim in what police are saying to be a “premeditated, targeted shooting.” The rapper was quickly ushered off the stage at around 10:23 PM, moments after a loud bang. The show comes to a close.
People say they could see a man in a red shirt being evacuated out in a stretcher. The man shot, later identified as Memphis rapper CEO Jizzle, was evacuated immediately to Regional One Health, where he was nursed back to health. Luckily, no one else was harmed, but the identity of the shooter is unknown. CEO Jizzle says he’s not sure of whom his attacker might be, but he reassures fans that he is “made of concrete” and that “the ‘opps’ could never take him out.”
The police are unaware of how the intruder snuck a gun into the building, as the security system heavily checks and scans for such items. The FedEx Forum can hold up to 19,000, and this show was just about sold out. Photos and videos of the scene show a man bent over being carried out by two paramedics and the security team while the rest of the crowd panics and storms onto the street.
Lil Baby canceled his next concert for Louisville the following day, the 9th, but recontinues his tour the day after in Nashville. All his guests remained on the tour. This is not the first time this has happened at a Lil Baby concert. xa concert in Birmingham, Alabama in 2020 came to an early close due to the same reason. Only one shot was fired, but someone still sustained life-threating injuries.
On September 9th, Lil Baby took to Twitter to announce that “unfortunately I couldn’t perform last night in Memphis, Ima make sure everyone gets a refund tho,” followed by a two hands making a heart emoji.
